Thought for the Month
"Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth?...Who deter‑mined its measures?...What were its foundations fastened on?"
(Job 38:4‑6 WEB)
Sir David Attenborough is a British broadcaster, biologist, and natural historian, best known for creating and presenting wildlife documentaries. He was born on 8 May 1926 in London and is now a centenarian.
He became famous through BBC programmes such as Life on Earth, The Blue Planet and Planet Earth. His work has helped millions of people learn about animals, plants, and the environment. He is especially admired for his calm voice, clear explanations and passion for protecting nature. David has spent many decades travelling around the world filming wildlife and explaining the importance of conservation. He is widely considered one of the most influential nature presenters in history.
Nature is a wonder in the world. It’s one evidence of an intelligent Creator as Romans 1:20 (ESV) says, "For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made." Also in Psalm 104:24‑25 (WEB) "Yahweh, how many are your works! In wisdom, you have made them all. The earth is full of your riches. There is the sea, great and wide, in which are innumerable living things, both small and large animals." We see it every day and wonder about the beautiful song of a small brown bird like the wren or the beauty of the Laburnum tree in bloom and every other tree that blossoms that we do not know the name of another well‑known person who was also born in 1926 about the same time as David Attenborough is the late Queen. She would have been 100 in April and there was an expectation she might have been celebrating her 100th birthday but in the last months of her life seemed to suddenly appear frail. In her Christmas messages she always referred to her faith. In 1952 she mentioned it as a "festival kept in honour of the child born at Bethlehem nearly two thousand years ago." And in 1953 from New Zealand about "celebrating the birth of the Prince of Peace who preached the brotherhood of man" and in 1954 was "the Light" that "has illumined the world for two thousand years." In her last Christmas message the late Queen said of Jesus, "a man whose teachings have been handed down from generation to generation, and have been the bedrock of my faith."
The late Duke of Edinburgh was "an early champion of taking seriously our stewardship of the environment" and saw the import of nature. Its not surprising then that he was a founder of the World Wildlife Fund for Nature. No wonder so many care about the natural world, it is God’s handiwork and carries his signature.
"He showed me a river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb.in the middle of its street. On this side of the river and on that was the tree of life, bearing twelve kinds of fruits, yielding its fruit every month. The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. There will be no curse any more." (Rev.22:1‑3 WEB)
Nature in Colour
Nature’s God, how great a painter! Sunset beauty, sunrise glory; Colours endless changing ever. Mixing, blending, never ending, Always in the firmament expanding. Colours endless, changing ever.
At times nights in Northern regions— Treat us to aurora borealis— Celestial wonder, heavenly pageant, Electric, changing grand display, Spasmodic, symphony of colour, Rainbowic flashes ’gainst the dark, Mysterious kaleidoscopic fantasy; Heavenly wonder of the sky!
